Forus takes over ten clubs from Holmes Place Iberia

Forus is strengthening its position in the Spanish market by acquiring ten clubs from Holmes Place. As both companies said in a statement, a fund managed by JP Morgan Asset Management (which took a stake in Forus last February together with Ben Oldman) was tasked with the acquisition. The transaction is part of Forus' strategy to grow through acquisitions. Baring Private Equity Partners is also a shareholder in the company.

With this acquisition, Forus, which acquired Santagadea Sport and Catalonia's Seae in 2019, manages 44 facilities in Spain and three in Portugal. Holmes Place, on the other hand, is reducing its network to five facilities, in which two urban centres in Barcelona and the eight facilities acquired from Virgin Active in 2017 have been transferred to Forus. This move allows Holmes Place to focus on the premium segment and Forus to manage its assets on a larger scale.

Ignacio de Triana, CEO of Forus, said "Thanks to this transaction, in which Forus takes over the management of the largest Holmes Place facilities in Spain, our leadership position in the licensed and large-scale facilities segment is further consolidated". And Josep Viladot, CEO of Holmes Place España, comments for his company "We are entering a new phase that will allow us to focus on the premium segment where our club concept originated in 1980".
